Management Team

Our management team comes from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. It has taken a cautious and controlled approach to growth since the company’s inception in 1998.

Charles W. Johnson, President and Treasurer

Mr. Johnson is a successful investor, manager and entrepreneur with an extensive background in the insurance industry. Mr. Johnson is also President and founder of United Insurance Agency, Inc., in southeastern MA.  He has interests in cattle ranching in Texas and a safari resort in South Africa as well as commercial real estate. Mr. Johnson is also the Chairman of the Board for United Consumer Finance.

Herschel H. Hamlen, Vice President – Legal

Mr. Hamlen is an attorney and is currently a sitting judge in Cobb County, (Atlanta) Georgia. He has practiced in the area of business and corporate law for over 25 years.

Scott Strazdes, General Manager

Mr. Strazdes oversees the day to day operations of United Consumer Finance. Prior to joining the company, he served as auditor with Chrysler Financial. He graduated from Westfield State College with a degree in Communications & Psychology.

John W. Pickard, Underwriter

Mr. Pickard is an experienced underwriter with the company. After graduating with a degree in accounting from Bentley College, Mr. Pickard obtained an MBA in Finance from Suffolk University.

Hermann Schaefer, Secretary

Mr. Schaefer received his Masters Degree in Education and taught briefly before transferring to the insurance industry. He formed his own agency which later merged with United Insurance Agency where he is now the senior vice president.
